13-Week Email Course

Week 12 — True Self

December 6, 2020

Wow! Can you believe it? This week introduces the final theme of the Seeds of Wisdom email course. Next Sunday, you’ll receive a completion email to help you integrate what you’ve learned and witness how you’ve grown.

Take a moment to complete with last week’s theme of Darkness, and prepare to welcome the glory of True Self.

True Self is one of 12 essential themes for guidance and growth in my book and deck, Seeds of Wisdom. Let’s use our established rhythm for exploring each week’s theme: readreflectrespond… Four possible practices are included for liberating the energy of True Self.

Use your journal or this printable workbook to record your encounters with this wisdom theme: http://EastlyCreative.com/s/TrueSelfWorkbook.pdf

Spread your wings and fly!

True Self is an invocation of the freedom and beauty that is your true nature. Take a moment to behold the butterfly below. Then read through a brief description of the theme.

Keywords for True Self

freedom; transformation; completion;
self-actualization; point of no return;
no limits; authenticity; release of armor

Read…

a brief excerpt on the theme

A butterfly is not a caterpillar, although it once was. It can’t return to its chrysalis. The change is complete; but the journey is just beginning.

True Self reminds you that you are beautiful and you are free. Any awareness other than this is caterpillar-thinking. It is proper to think like a caterpillar when you are a caterpillar. It is a reflection of where you are in your self-actualization process. But as a butterfly, there is no doubt about your True Self — there is only the experience of it.

The theme of True Self asks powerful questions: How have you been hiding out? Who are you without your armor?

You are no longer who you were. Don’t try to live like the person you were in the past. Catch up to yourself in present time. Spread your wings and fly.

Reflect…

in meditation and in writing

Breathe into the energy of True Self — the image and the words. What connections come together inside you? Are there certain lines of text or keywords that stand out to you?

Reflect — in meditation and in writing — on your personal understanding of True Self. What does True Self mean to you?

This is your final theme to explore. What reflection rhythms work for you? Does it feel right to do 5 minutes of meditation, followed by 5 minutes of writing? Use whatever reflection process feels authentic to you.

Respond…

by placing symbols on your altar

What objects do you have or can you create that symbolize your understanding of True Self?

Is there something you hold sacred that mirrors back to you how fundamentally different you are from who you used to be?

If you have the Seeds of Wisdom cards, you may want to place the True Self card on your altar. If you don’t have the cards, you are welcome to print the image above and use that.

Over the next week, let yourself pause at your altar frequently and discover how the theme of True Self reflects its wisdom for you.

Possible Practices

for exploring the theme

Here are some possible practices for exploring the theme of True Self. Keep in mind, these are optional! It’s entirely up to you how much time and space you want to dedicate to this process:

  • Practice 1 — Identify Caterpillar Urges
Journal on the question: How am trying to live like the person I was 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago?

  • Practice 2 — Design Fresh Supports
What old support structures (daily practices, friend circles, regular habits) are no longer interesting or no longer feel supportive to you? What can you try that’s totally new?

  • Practice 3 — Crack Out of Your Chrysalis
What have you been using to protect yourself? (For example: habits, beliefs, even body postures.) Do you still need these protective mechanisms? If not, experiment with not using them.

  • Practice 4 — Say Hello to the True You!
Perform a farewell ritual for a part of yourself that is clearly no longer present time. Perform a welcoming ritual for who you are now.

Completion

toward the end of next week

Let your process with True self come to a close as you approach the end of next week.

Use your journal to take notes on your experience with the theme. Take a photo of your altar if you like.

This is our final theme for the series. You will receive another email next Sunday to help you integrate your journey.

Until that time, may your process with True Self reveal your TRUE SELF!
