Seeds of Wisdom
13-Week Email Course

Week 10 — Rebirth

November 22, 2020

The Seeds of Wisdom themes are well-matched to the 12 months of the year, which is why they provide the sacred structure for the 12-month Wisdom Program. (The 2021 cohort is enrolling now!) This email course, however, uses a more condensed timeline and the themes have stood on their own, without linking to the seasons’ unfolding… until now.

The 10th week of the Seeds of Wisdom 13-week email course introduces the theme of Rebirth, which is very much connected with the feeling of late-Autumn/near-Winter. (The themes that follow in the final weeks of this email course also have the same seasonal alignment as they do in the Wisdom Program.)

Rebirth is one of 12 essential themes for guidance and growth in my book and deck, Seeds of Wisdom. Let’s use our established rhythm for exploring each week’s theme: readreflectrespond… Four possible practices are included for aligning with the wisdom of Rebirth.

Don’t forget: there’s a printable companion workbook for the week, too: https://www.eastlycreative.com/s/RebirthWorkbook.pdf

What do the snake and the moon have in common?

They both go through regular cycles of release but remain the same entity. What other similarities do you observe between this earthly creature and this heavenly orb?

a brief excerpt on the theme

In the Rebirth card, the snake bites its own tail, creating a circle that cycles on forever. The end meets the beginning in a rhythm that never stops, is always spinning.

Rebirth offers a portal to step through to claim your own natural rhythms, to honor the way your life goes through cycles of waxing and waning just like the moon, to acknowledge the ways you have outgrown old skin.

Rebirth beckons with a chance to make a fresh start. You need to let go of the old to welcome the new. But through it all you will still be you. (What is this “you” that sheds its skin over and over and yet endures in its form?)

Life is constant motion — sometimes slow, sometimes fast, but always flowing. The tides of life rise and fall. Go ahead: ride them all.

Keywords for Rebirth

beginnings and endings; shedding identity;
lunar rhythms; cycles; fresh start;
letting go; the only constant is change

Reflect…

in meditation and in writing

Rest with what you’ve taken in — the image and the words. What connections come together inside you? Are there certain lines of text or keywords that stand out to you?

Reflect — in meditation and in writing — on your personal understanding of Rebirth. What does Rebirth mean to you?

What’s a suitable rhythm for your reflection this week? Do 5 minutes of meditation and 5 minutes of writing still work for you? Would you like to try longer this week?

Respond…

by placing symbols on your altar

What objects do you have or can you create that symbolize your understanding of Rebirth?

We often keep talismans from different phases of our lives: locks of hair, special jewelry, diplomas, even clothes that no longer fit us but that remind us of an old way of life. Is something from a previous phase of life calling out to be acknowledged on your altar? Or even to be released entirely?

If you have the Seeds of Wisdom cards, you may want to place the Rebirth card on your altar. If you don’t have the cards, you are welcome to print the image above and use that.

Over the next week, let yourself pause at your altar frequently and discover how the theme of Rebirth offers its wisdom for you.

Possible Practices

for exploring the theme

Here are some possible practices for exploring the theme of Rebirth. Keep in mind, these are optional! It’s entirely up to you how much time and space you want to dedicate to this process:

  • Practice 1 — Catalog Your Changes
Catalog the major changes you’ve been through on your life journey so far. How are you the same? How are you different?

  • Practice 2 — Let Go to Receive
Journal on this question: What do I need to let go of to be able to receive one of my heart’s desires? If you are able, take a small step toward actually doing the work of letting go.

  • Practice 3 — Do a Lunar Ritual
Conduct a lunar ritual for yourself and/or friends. We are currently in the waxing moon phase. It’s a good time for rituals that help you call in your heart’s desire.

  • Practice 4 — Anchor with Daily Rhythms
Take on the practice of beginning and ending each day with mindfulness. This could include writing your intentions for the day each morning and documenting your accomplishments at the end of the day. Or it could look like lighting a candle or doing yoga stretches or meditating at the beginning and end of the day.

Completion

toward the end of next week

Let your process with Rebirth come to a close as you approach the end of next week.

Use your journal to take notes on your experience with the theme. Take a photo of your altar if you like.

Next Sunday you will receive an email introducing the next theme. Be sure to clear your altar to mark your completion with the theme of Rebirth.

May your process with Rebirth connect you with nature’s rhythms and your own.
