There is world within you and beyond you that is not imaginary but nor is mapped in the material realm. It is the Mundis Imaginalis — the imaginal realm. It is vital, alive, and very real… just different from the realm of our everyday lives.
In this 8-week class, Underseas Journey, we will travel not “overseas,” as we say when we venture from our Motherland to another land within the mundane world. We will travel underseas to the imaginal Otherlands within and beyond.
We will hone the art of inner journeywork, using guided imagery. We will play with the metaphors of oceanic waters and of deep-sea diving. We will collect treasures from within in the form of images. We will explore the texture and dimension of these images through creative processes, mainly collage and poetry. We will set down the tools of logic, rationality, and manic meaning-making and align with the ebb and flow of deep knowing and magic.

Underseas Journey Flow
The Underseas Journey follows this weekly thematic flow, allowing that an unexpected deep ocean current may encourage us to change course.
Arrival — You arrive at a seaport, having heard The Call. A call to adventure. A call to discover. A call you can’t really name, just that it keeps calling you. And so you have come here. There are Allies. Some you know; some you do not.
Gather your provisions — Some you will need and some you will discard immediately; and you never know which is which… and sometimes you shed something you wish you had kept. The journey continues regardless.
Setting out — Row row row your boat out onto the sea, merrily merrily merrily merrily, the dream will set you free.
Diving in — One, two, three! And down you go. Deeper and deeper. What mysteries await you in the deep?
Finding treasure — Lucky you!
Surrendering a story that keeps you stuck — Lucky you, again!
Destination (or destiny) — You have arrived in a whole new world. Make a map of your journey. What do you still have with you that matters?
Chart a new course — Do you return? Do you carry on? You have a map to where you’ve been. Where would you like to go?
What this means for our rational minds:
When we begin the course, you don’t need to come with any special supplies or materials. You’ll be invited to gather “provisions” that call to you in the first two weeks that will support your creative process — things like collage elements, scissors, glue, etc. We will gather images (and wisdom) over time from the guided journeys that accord with our thematic flow. (Some of) these images will be expressed in poetic or image form, without attachment to outcomes, as a way to collect the power experienced in the journeys. You may end up with several small collages or poems or expressive arts fragments. Or you may end up with a larger piece, a sort of image-rich map of your journey. Or you may end up with something else altogether surprising. This is not an art-making class per se, but rather an exploration in creative soul alchemy.

This small, intimate circle will be capped at 8 participants.

We will meet by Zoom video. Gatherings will not be recorded.
If you and I have never worked together before, we will have a brief phone consultation prior to finalizing your registration.
